Axle Counter Az LM

Hitachi Rail's flagship axle counter system for train detection

Our best-selling Axle Counter System Az LM combines the experience of axle counter dedication since 1965 with the latest technology for safe, secure, reliable and cost-efficient train detection. This comprehensive multi-section axle counter solution capable of managing almost any train detection application.

Versatile, Safe, Secure & Reliable in operation

Axle counter system Az LM

Driven by the need to have a reliable train detection system with life cycle costs far below that of track circuits, axle counter systems are being deployed by an ever increasing number of infrastructure managers.

The increasing number of passengers on main line, suburban rail, metro and tramway as well as freight transport on main line, has fuelled the need for an axle counter system which,

  • is pushing line availability further without compromising on cost or complexity and
  • integrates seamlessly into the classic signalling systems (block signalling), contemporary signalling systems (moving block signalling with intelligence in the infrastructure) and signalling systems of tomorrow (automatic train operation with intelligence on the train).
Result of Hitachis investment into the continous improvement of its axle counter system Az LM is,
  • the unique availability engineering, which goes beyond features of the product and
  • the breakup of the system up into objects, which communicate over IP networks, using where available open protocol standards

Proven

More than 50 infrastructure managers have chosen Az LM

More than 150,000 wheel sensors in SIL4 application in main line and urban rail

Infrastructure and operating costs

Hitachi Rail Az LM keeps the infrastructure manager’s investments into axle counter systems low over the whole life time

CAPEX

For classical architectures with copper cabling: cable cost saving with only 1 wire pair per detection point

For all IP architectures: every interface of Az LM can be put on an IP network

OPEX

Availability champion

Virtually maintenance free

No cost for dismounting of wheel sensors for tamping and rail grinding

Strong obsolescence management offering fit-form-function replacements over decades

Line availability

Custom-tailoring of the availability of the system to the concrete need, keeping the recovery time after a service affecting failure well below threshold.

Availability engineering comprises:

  • the design of the product,
  • all interfaces to its environment (e.g. electro-magnetic compatibility),
  • maintenance procedures &
  • component failure prediction

Versatile

Due to the modular architecture, Hitachi axle counters integrate seamlessly into any signalling system architecture, no matter if centralised or decentralised.

Successful cases for any application:

  • main line
  • urban rail
  • mixed gauge tracks

Training

Know-how transfer scalable to any investment policy.

Rail Academy trains:

  • engineering staff
  • installation and maintenance staff
  • subject matter experts and trainers
