In May 2019, Thales Automatic Train Operation (ATO) capabilities were enabled on the Flushing Line for MTA New York City Transit (NYCT). The Flushing Line is one of the busiest subway lines in New York City and it has now been running exclusively on the Thales SelTracTM Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling system for over five months and service has steadily improved month-over-month since implementation. In December 2018 full revenue service began, with the Certificate of Substantial Completion finalized for the line in March 2019.

With the opening of the 122 km railway segment between Antequera and Granada, Spain has consolidated its position as the leading European country and the second worldwide, after China, for the number of high-speed line kilometres. Thanks to the opening of this new line, passengers will be able to travel non-stop between Madrid and Granada in 3:05 hours for the first time. Around 3,000 people per day will be able to benefit from the new high-speed train ticket offer that connects Granada to Madrid and Catalonia.

The Biscay Transport Consortium, will provide Metro Bilbao, with Thales technology to improve security of the current control centre where both of the city’s Metro lines are managed. To do so, a new back-up centre located at Talleres de Ariz in Basauri will also be built and shall be operational by end of 2019.

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) the Italian rail network operator, has awarded a pool of companies led by Thales a contract for the implementation of security systems on 61 RFI stations throughout various regions in Italy.

Thales has been awarded a 3-year contract by Egypt National Railways (ENR) for the modernisation of the signalling and telecommunications systems and all works related to a 180 km section of line between the towns of Asyut and Nagh Hammadi, located in the Upper Egypt portion of the Alexandria–Cairo–Aswan rail corridor.

Thales has signed a two-year contract with the Saudi Railway Company (SAR) to maintain the signalling, telecommunication and electromechanical systems of the 2,400 km Northern Train project. This contract also includes the transfer of knowledge to SAR national teams and complies with the objectives of “Saudi Arabia Vision 2030”.

July 10, 2017 - Turkey's Başkentray project involves the renovation of the signalling systems for conventional, high-speed and suburban lines along a 36-kilometre section stretching from Sincan to Kayaş through the city of Ankara.

June 19, 2017 - Thales and Williams Advanced Engineering, the technology and engineering services business of the Williams Group, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together to apply Thales's extensive capabilities in digital trust and cyber security with Williams' experience and expertise in the field of automotive intelligent mobility solutions.
